Bowes of Barnes

Bowes of Barnes in Surtees' The History and Antiquities of the County Palatine of Durham, Vol. I, pp. 116, 236.

The image below is believed to have been depicted in a manuscript showing coats of arms sometime between 1620 and 1650. Simple arms such as this are suggestive of very early origins, since arms can become more decorated over time through marriages. This is not necessarily an accurate depiction. There is a clue in the writing: "Bowes of Bar..." This suggests this particular depiction was used by the Bowes of Barnes.
