Conversion Discounts from FTDNA
Ordering all 67 markers is ideal and the best surname study discount available from Family Tree DNA!
Due to laboratory quality concerns and logistical limitations, I cannot add you directly to the Bowes (and variants) DNA Project at FamilyTreeDNA based on DNA test results from another company. But that doesn't mean we can't work together! You have three options depending what works best for you:
1) This is the best option if you can accommodate it financially. You can purchase a Conversion Kit from FTDNA (not necessary if you originally test with FTDNA). While this adds an additional expense, the advantages of doing so are that you can:
- be tightly integrated into our project, allowing you to easily compare all your markers with other members of the project
- enjoy the award-winning online tools FTDNA offers at your personal page and to the project administrator to help with interpretations (view FTDNA's demo)
- receive notification of any new matches to your markers that come along in the largest genetic genealogy database, at FTDNA
- join additional projects that may pertain to your family history, such as those studying specific geographic, haplogroup, and other special interests
- upgrade to 67 markers in order to help with interpreting your matches
- order as needed from among a large stable of additional, focused, FTDNA tests that may assist with your research, all but a handful of which are not available at Ancestry.com
- be more certain of your haplogroup placement with a confirmed haplogroup
- easily and accurately transfer results to Ysearch using FTDNA's automatic tool
- easily and accurately transfer results to the Genographic Project
- outline your family history and research notes on a page at this Bowes Surname Study website that is very well optimized to appear in Google search results so searchers can find it
2) You can also upload your results to the YSearch database (a good thing to do no matter what company you are with). This FTDNA public database pools results from both FTDNA and other genealogy DNA testing companies, so you can look for matches from a wider pool. This will enable you to compare your markers to people who've tested with FTDNA and uploaded their markers, as well as others. It will also enable me to view your markers there by typing in the ID for your uploaded results. Note: not all FTDNA testers have uploaded to YSearch. You also will not be able to join our project directly this way and see your DNA results side-by-side with all others sharing your surname in the project.
3) You can simply e-mail me the results of your test from another company. Please put each marker with its result on a separate line. Even if you order the conversion kit, I would love to get your marker results by e-mail while waiting for the conversion process to go through, because I will be anxious to take a look!
Oh, and don't forget to send me as detailed a family history as you can, focused on your surname line!
